Blessed to Bless
Jeremiah 29:11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says the Lord, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. God knows His plans; you know His character. Welfare—shalom—and not evil frame His intent for exiles then and for trusting people now. Future and hope are gifts He gives. October misuse of this verse as a guarantee of easy outcomes needs correction; the original hearers faced long exile. Still, God's heart toward His people is constructive. Set your heart on welfare that includes repentance and justice, not only comfort. Hold future and hope when the present feels like Babylon. Plans are His; obedience is yours. Receive hope as a gift you may request. Trust welfare on His definition. Reject evil's lie that God plots your ruin.
PrayerLord, You know the plans You have for me—plans for welfare and hope. Anchor me in that future when exile feelings rise. Amen.
