Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. Mercy has a model: the Father. Even as sets the measure. September closes with a simple, searching call. Be merciful in traffic, at the table, in judgment calls about people's motives. Father-like mercy is generous, patient, and holy—not soft on evil, yet slow to crush. Withhold a harsh word. Give a second chance where wisdom allows. Offer help that costs you. Mercy received from God becomes mercy extended. If you have been precise in justice and stingy in mercy, flip the emphasis today. Children of the Father look like Him when they choose mercy under provocation. End the month by resembling your Father in one concrete merciful act before midnight.
PrayerFather, You are merciful—make me merciful as You are, especially where I prefer harsh precision. Amen.
