Love Casts Out Fear
Matthew 18:22Jesus said to him, "I don't tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven."
Jesus said to him, I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times. Limits explode. Seventy-seven—or seventy times seven—signals forgiveness beyond bookkeeping. Jesus answers Peter's math with overflowing mercy. People who hurt you repeatedly still meet a call to release vengeance, even while wisdom may limit access. Endless forgiveness mirrors the King's mercy in the following parable. September grudges that have been counted carefully need this detonation of grace. Forgive again without announcing your nobility. Come to God and ask for the next release. Seventy-seven is not permission for others to harm without consequence in community; it is freedom from your heart's prison of tallies. Lay down the calculator. Pick up mercy larger than seven. Live light because Christ forgave you past counting.
PrayerLord Jesus, You said not seven but seventy-seven—free me from tallies, and form endless mercy in my heart. Amen.
