Rooted in Love
Proverbs 27:17Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend's countenance.
Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. Sharpening involves contact, friction, and purpose—dull isolation will not do it. Friends who only flatter leave you blunt. Go after relationships where honest edge is welcome: correction without cruelty, encouragement without fluff. Be iron for someone else this week—speak a sharpening word you have avoided. Sparks may fly; that is not always failure. Purpose is usefulness for good work, not endless conflict. July solitude can hide dullness; schedule a sharpening conversation. Marriage, friendship, and discipleship all need this proverb. Stay soft enough to receive edge, strong enough to give it. God uses people as tools on people. After sharpening, go do the work you were edged for—love, service, and courage that a blunt life cannot attempt.
PrayerLord, provide iron that sharpens me, and make me the kind of friend who sharpens others with truth and love. Amen.
