Calm for Anxious Flesh
Matthew 8:17That it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, "He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases."
This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He took our illnesses and bore our diseases. Matthew links Jesus' healing ministry to Isaiah's servant who bears sickness. Taking and bearing are load language—He carries what crushes us. This points toward the cross where sin and its wreckage are borne, and it dignifies His compassion for diseased bodies along the way. Bring illnesses to the Bearer. You are not annoying Him with bodily prayer. Fulfillment means Scripture saw this coming. Hope for healing sits inside a larger bearing that includes forgiveness and final resurrection. Until then, let His bearing of disease teach the church to carry one another's sick with patience. He took what we could not lift alone. Rest some of the weight on Him today.
PrayerLord Jesus, You took illnesses and bore diseases. I place what I cannot carry onto Your strong mercy. Amen.
