Proverbs 22:4The result of humility and the fear of the Lord is wealth, honor, and life.
The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life. Humility and fear of the Lord are paired; pride and irreverence forfeit what wisdom calls reward. Riches, honor, and life are broad goods—sometimes material, always more than swagger. This is not a contract you enforce against God; it is a proverbial pattern under His moral world. Pursue humility because God is God, not because you want a payout. Fear the Lord in decisions about money and status. Life as reward includes the vitality of a clear conscience. If you lack riches, do not conclude God failed the proverb; check whether humility is real and whether life and honor are already present in quieter forms. Receive gifts with lowliness. Push back against the honor that requires you to stop fearing God.
PrayerLord, grow humility and fear of You in me. I trust Your reward of life and honor more than proud shortcuts. Amen.
