Colossians 3:18Wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Fitting in the Lord sets the frame—never as covering for harm, never as denial of a wife's dignity as a co-heir of grace. Submission here is voluntary ordering within Christian marriage, answering a husband's Christ-shaped love taught in the same chapter. If you are a wife, ask what fitting obedience to this call looks like without fear-mongering or naive silence. If you are a husband, become the kind of man under whom submission is safe because you love like Christ. The whole church should reject twisting this verse into control. In the Lord means Jesus defines the terms. Press toward counsel if a home is unsafe. Where marriage is simply ordinary and strained, practice fitting reverence and sacrificial love together.
PrayerLord, make our marriages fitting in You—marked by wise submission and Christlike love, never by harm. Amen.
