Rest for the Weary
Proverbs 3:7Don't be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. Self-wise people make poor patients of wisdom and poor friends in counsel. Fearing the Lord dethrones the ego that diagnoses everything alone. Turning from evil is health for soul and often for body—since many harms enter through proud choices. Admit where you have been wise in your own eyes about a habit, a relationship, or a symptom you minimize. Fear of the Lord is not cringing; it is clear-eyed reverence that changes behavior. Turn in a concrete way today: stop the thing, tell the truth, invite help. Evil loses when proud eyes learn to look up. Healing paths often begin where self-trust finally bows.
PrayerLord, I do not want to be wise in my own eyes. Teach me to fear You and turn from evil in specific ways. Amen.
