Love Makes Room
1 Peter 5:8Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Love and relationships are prime hunting ground—division, lust, bitterness, careless words. Sober watchfulness is not paranoia; it is clear-eyed care for what God has entrusted. A roaring lion wants panic or numbness. Stay awake: notice patterns that devour intimacy, notice lies that isolate you, notice when conflict is being baited. Resist by staying in the truth, keeping short accounts, and refusing private compromises that start small. Watchfulness is an act of love for spouse, friends, church, and your own soul. Alert people can still be gentle; they simply will not sleepwalk into ruin. Love stays alert without suspecting everyone of malice.
PrayerLord, make me sober and watchful. The adversary prowls—keep me awake without panic, and guard the people I love. Amen.
