Held Fast

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.

Ephesians 2:8

Saved by grace through faith—not from yourselves; it is God's gift. Lent must never become a subtle attempt to purchase what can only be received. Grace undercuts boasting and despair alike. Faith is the open hand, itself enabled by mercy. If spiritual disciplines have started to feel like a ledger, close the ledger and open your hands. Gift language belongs at the center of every confession and every hope of change. You contribute need, not wages. That humbles achievers and lifts the ashamed. Bless the Lord for a salvation you could not invent or afford. Then practice good works as gratitude, never as currency. Grace remains the atmosphere of Christian effort. Boasting dies where gift-language lives. Receive again, then serve without keeping spiritual receipts for heaven's cashier.

PrayerGod of gift-salvation, I receive grace through faith again today. Keep me from turning Your gift into my trophy. Amen.
