2 Corinthians 5:21For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
The sinless One made to be sin for us so that we become God's righteousness in Him—the great exchange. Lent finds its center here, not in your willpower. He knew no sin; the burden placed on Him was ours. Righteousness you wear is gift location "in him," not a mood. Let this verse stop both pride and despair: pride because you contributed no sinlessness, despair because the exchange is sufficient. Worship before you work. Confession becomes agreement with a verdict already carried. Approach Easter weeks with clearer sight of what the cross accomplished. Become what you are in Christ by living congruent with gifted righteousness—honest, grateful, and free to obey. Gospel exchange leaves no room for earning your way into God's favor. Rest, then obey from rest.
PrayerHoly God, thank You for the exchange I could never arrange—sin borne by Jesus, righteousness given to me. I rest in that gospel today. Amen.
