Held in Weakness
Psalm 34:19Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
Many afflictions meet the righteous; delivery is still promised. Faithfulness does not purchase a pain-free path. That honesty comforts people who were taught that suffering means they failed. Afflictions can be medical, relational, or circumstantial. Deliverance may be rescue from, or presence through, or eventual resurrection beyond. Hold all three while you pray. Count afflictions without catastrophizing, and count previous deliverances without amnesia. The Lord who delivers "out of them all" is worthy of trust mid-story. Seek help, lament, and hope in the same week. Righteousness here means belonging to God, not flawless performance that should have prevented trouble. Deliverance in installments still deserves thanks on the days it shows up small. Belonging to God holds when explanations for pain run out.
PrayerLord, my afflictions feel many. Deliver me in the ways You know best, and keep me from reading pain as abandonment. Amen.
