Love Remembers Mercy
1 John 4:18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.
Perfect love drives out fear because fear carries punishment in its teeth. John's focus is relational confidence before God that spills into courage with people. Fear of rejection often controls how we love—guarded, calculating, half-present. As God's love matures us, punitive dread loosens. You may still feel butterflies; you need not obey terror. Where fear has muted honesty or blocked reconciliation, invite God's love to cast it out. Perfect love is God's love reaching completion in us, not our flawless performance. Sit with the gospel until your nervous system remembers you are safe in Christ. Then make the call, send the message, or show up. Love that has met fear and dismissed it can finally move toward others.
PrayerGod of perfect love, cast out fear that punishes and paralyzes me. Make Your love complete in how I approach You and how I approach people. Amen.
