God Is Near
Luke 11:13If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?
Even flawed parents give good gifts; how much more the heavenly Father gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask. The climax of Jesus' giving-language here is not a gadget but God's own presence. Christmas week continues in that key: the Son has come; the Spirit is given to those who ask. If your celebrations left you restless, ask for the Spirit's filling—wisdom, comfort, power to love. Good gifts from heaven may include material help, yet Jesus aims higher so we do not stop at lesser presents. Pray specifically for the Spirit's work in a dull heart, a tense relationship, or a calling that scares you. The Father's "how much more" outruns our cautious expectations. Ask again today for fresh filling, not only for memories of yesterday's celebration.
PrayerHeavenly Father, how much more You give! Send Your Holy Spirit to fill what is empty in me, and teach me to ask for Your best gifts. Amen.
