Begin With Kindness

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.

1 Corinthians 13:8

Love never fails—while prophecies, tongues, and knowledge partialities pass away. Paul is ranking what lasts in the life of the church and the heart. Impressive gifts can impress a room; love builds a people. When a relationship is strained, the temptation is to reach for clever words or spiritual performance. The better move is often quieter: stay, listen, forgive, tell the truth gently. "Never fails" does not mean every romance succeeds or every friendship survives unchanged. It means love is never the wrong investment in God's economy, and it outlasts the showier things we sometimes prefer. Audit your week for moments when you chose being impressive over being loving. Reverse one of them today. Choose the act that will still matter when the meeting ends and the applause is gone.

PrayerGod, make love my lasting aim. Where I have preferred impressing people to caring for them, turn me around and teach me what never fails. Amen.
