Mercy Meets Monday
Matthew 6:31Therefore don't be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?'
Jesus names the anxious script out loud—What will we eat? drink? wear?—so His hearers can recognize it. Worry rehearses scarcity until the heart forgets the Father. Naming the questions is the first crack in their power. You are allowed to plan meals and budgets; you are invited to stop treating tomorrow's unknowns as today's emergency. When the familiar triad of food, drink, and clothing anxiety rises, answer with a slower question: What do I already know about my Father's care? Then do the next ordinary act—cook what you have, mend what you can, ask for help without humiliation. Anxiety shrinks when it is neither obeyed nor idolized. Let Jesus' frankness give you permission to interrupt the spiral mid-sentence and step back into trust that still shops wisely and prays honestly.
PrayerFather, I hand You the questions that keep me spinning. Replace anxious rehearsal with trust, and help me meet today's real needs without borrowing tomorrow's panic. Amen.
