Stay Soft
1 Corinthians 13:5Doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil.
Love's portrait continues: it refuses rude spectacle, drops the demand to get its own way, stays unprovoked, and declines to keep a mental ledger of wrongs. That last trait alone could change a household. Scorekeeping turns every conflict into evidence for a prosecution. Love chooses a different courtroom—one where mercy is allowed to speak. "Not seeking its own way" challenges the reflex to win the argument even when winning costs the relationship. You will still need boundaries; this verse does not baptize enabling. It does confront the habit of nursing offenses until they harden into identity. Soften a reply that would have been sharp. Ask whether you are protecting a principle or protecting pride. Love that takes no account of evil is not naïve; it is free.
PrayerGod of mercy, stop me from keeping score. Unclench my need to win, cool what provokes me, and teach me love that refuses rude victory. Amen.
