Grace in Close Quarters

Love is patient and is kind; love doesn't envy. Love doesn't brag, is not proud.

1 Corinthians 13:4

Paul's portrait of love begins with patience and kindness—two traits that show up most when someone is inconvenient. Envy, bragging, and pride are the counterfeits that turn relationships into scoreboards. Real love celebrates another's win without a secret sulk and tells the truth without needing the spotlight. In marriage, friendship, or church life, patience often means letting a conversation finish without interruption. Kindness may be the text you send after you were short earlier. Notice where envy has been quietly editing your joy, or where pride has made apology feel expensive. Love that is not proud can admit, "I was wrong," without a speech defending the ego. Practice one patient response and one kind act today toward a person who usually triggers your hurry. That is not soft Christianity; it is love learning its basic grammar again.

PrayerJesus, form patience and kindness in me. Remove envy and pride from my reactions, and let my love look like Yours in the next hard conversation. Amen.
