A New Softness
Hebrews 10:24Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works. Consider how—thoughtful strategy, not vague wishing. Stir up means provoke in the best sense. Love and good works are the targets. October drift toward isolation kills this. Put consideration time on the calendar: how will I stir a friend this week? A text, a challenge, a shared project, a thank-you that fuels more love. One another is mutual; receive stirring without pride. Churches need agitators for good, not only peacemakers for quiet. Plan one stirring act. Love grows when someone pokes it awake. Good works multiply in company. Push back against the shrug that says people will do what they do. Consider how. Then do the stirring gently and bravely.
PrayerLord, help me consider how to stir others up to love and good works—and let me receive the same stirring. Amen.
