Receive With Thanks
Matthew 7:11If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Jesus argues from flawed parents to a flawless Father. How much more is the engine of trust. Good gifts and good things include provision, and Matthew's parallel elsewhere names the Spirit. Bring your ask to Him. Your earthly parents' mixed record is not the ceiling of God's generosity. September parenting—or memories of parenting—can distort prayer; let how much more correct the distortion. Good things come from a good Father. Bring requests without pretending you earned a better dad than you had. Heaven's Father outclasses every comparison. Ask with the confidence of much more, and receive with gratitude when good things arrive in unexpected wrapping.
PrayerFather in heaven, You give good things far beyond flawed human parents—I ask with trust in Your how-much-more generosity. Amen.
