Lifted From Lack
1 Timothy 6:8But having food and clothing, we will be content with that.
But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. Contentment's baseline is strikingly low: food and clothing. Paul is not scorning homes or savings; he is cutting the root of endless craving. With these we will be content—training the will. Ask whether your discontent starts after needs are met. August wardrobes and menus can still host gratitude. Live out a content day: eat what you have, wear what you own, thank God, refuse the upgrade itch. Generosity grows when contentment guards the gate. If you lack food or clothing, this verse becomes a prayer for provision—and a call for the church to supply. If you have them, stop moving the goalposts. Contentment is learned. Begin with the basics God already placed in your hands today.
PrayerLord, with food and clothing make me content. Provide what I lack, and tame craving where I already have enough. Amen.
