One Another Again
Ruth 1:16Ruth said, "Don't urge me to leave you, and to return from following you, for where you go, I will go; and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God."
But Ruth said, Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Loyalty speech that remade a family line. Ruth binds geography, people, and God to Naomi's story. Covenant love sticks across borders and grief. Where you go I will go still challenges disposable relationships. Consider the loyalties you have treated as optional. Belonging to God's people and to God Himself is the heart of her vow. Work a Ruth-like sticking where faithfulness is needed—care for an aging relative, stay in a hard church season, keep covenant in marriage. God wrote redemption through such loyalty. Your sticking may be someone else's turning point this August.
PrayerLord, form Ruth-like loyalty in me—toward Your people and toward those I am called to love without quitting. Amen.
