Peaceable Wisdom
James 1:2Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations.
Count it all joy when you meet trials of various kinds—James startles soft religion. Counting is interpretive work: you assign meaning under God. Joy is not denial of hurt; it is confidence that testing can grow something durable. Various kinds means the list is not only dramatic crises—also irritations, delays, relational friction, bodily limits. When a trial arrives this week, pause before the usual complaint script. Discern what steadfastness God might be forming. Share the load with a trusted believer instead of isolating. Joy here is a practiced posture, sometimes spoken through clenched teeth at first, that refuses to crown the trial as lord. Let love stay warm while you learn under pressure, and let community keep you from bitter solitude.
PrayerLord, teach me to count trials with joy—not because pain is fun, but because You grow endurance through them. Keep my love soft. Amen.
