Strength to Endure

Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God.

Psalm 42:11

The psalmist interviews his own despair and answers with hope in God and future praise. Soul-talk is a spiritual skill: you do not have to agree with every inner weather report. Disturbed feelings are real; they are not final authorities. Ask the "why" without shame, then aim the soul toward hope. Praising yet—"I shall still praise him"—is defiance against despair's monopoly. If mental health struggle is intense, add professional care to this psalm practice; God often heals through skilled helpers. Use the verse as a morning script when gloom arrives before coffee. Speak to your soul as someone under God's care, not as an orphan of mood. Hope spoken to your own soul is discipleship, not denial of the weather inside.

PrayerGod my hope, I refuse to let despair have the only word. Steady my disturbed soul, and put praise back on my lips. Amen.
