Not Alone in the Lack
Psalm 34:10The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger, but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.
The psalm contrasts young lions—symbols of fierce self-sufficiency—with people who seek the Lord. Strength alone still meets hunger; seekers find that good things are not withheld. "Any good thing" is defined by God's wisdom, not by every craving. Seeking is active: prayer, integrity, community, open-handed work. If scarcity has made you feel prowling and alone, switch metaphors. You are invited to seek rather than to snarl. Bring your real lack to God and to trusted people who can help. Watch for good gifts that do not always look like cash—counsel, a shared meal, a delayed yes that protects you. The promise lands as encouragement to keep seeking, not as a demand that you fake cheerfulness while the cupboard is bare.
PrayerLord, I seek You rather than trusting my own fierce effort. Meet my lacks with what You call good, and keep me from bitter self-reliance. Amen.
