Hearts Softened
1 Corinthians 13:13But now faith, hope, and love remain—these three. The greatest of these is love.
Faith, hope, and love remain after lesser things fade, and love ranks first. Faith trusts God's character; hope leans into His future; love enacts His heart toward people. Ranking love highest protects religion from becoming impressive unbelief—right ideas with cold hands. In family life, love might mean putting the phone down when someone is talking. In church life, it might mean staying after to help stack chairs when you wanted to leave. Faith and hope are not demoted; they are completed when they become love with a face. If your spirituality has been mostly private lately, let this verse nudge you toward one embodied act of care. The greatest of these is still the one that reaches across the room.
PrayerTriune God, grow faith, hope, and love in me—and make love the greatest in how I treat the people nearest me today. Amen.
