Be Still
Isaiah 40:8The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever.
Isaiah contrasts fragile beauty with durable speech. Grass browns; flowers drop; God's word remains. In a culture addicted to the next update, this is a mercy. Trends expire. Opinions shift. The promises and commands of God outlast the season you are in. When your circumstances feel as temporary as cut flowers on a table, let that image work for you: the arrangement is lovely and brief, but it is not your foundation. Return to a promise you know is true—God's faithfulness, Christ's finished work, the Spirit's presence—and let it steady you against headlines and moods. Memorizing even one sentence of Scripture is an act of resistance against forgetfulness. The word that stands forever is available for today's decisions, not locked in a museum. Lean on what will still be true when this week's drama has faded.
PrayerEternal God, plant Your lasting word deeper than my fading worries. When everything temporary shouts, tune my ear to what stands forever. Amen.
