Held Together
Luke 6:35But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back; and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for He is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Love, do good, lend expecting nothing—enemy-love with economic risk. Reward and sonship motivate. God is kind to the ungrateful and evil; children resemble that kindness. September generosity toward difficult people tests this. Lend without the ledger of payback. Expecting nothing frees you from bitterness when thanks never come. Great reward is God's to give. Most High sets the family culture: kindness beyond dessert. Work one no-return good toward someone who will not repay. You will feel the stretch. That stretch is family likeness forming. Kindness like His is not naive; it is powerful mercy.
PrayerMost High, You are kind to the ungrateful—help me love enemies, do good, and lend expecting nothing in return. Amen.
